This consistent upward trend underscores the continuing demand for two-wheeled vehicles in the country, largely fueled by their affordability, efficiency, and role in navigating congested urban environments.
“Filipinos continue to see two-wheeled vehicles as a practical solution to daily commuting challenges, as their affordability, fuel efficiency, and ability to weave through heavy traffic, among other advantages, make them an essential choice for urban mobility,” said Alex Cumpas, MDPPA’s President.
The total wholesale sales recorded by MDPPA members reached 1,682,482 units in 2024, marking the highest sales figure in the past five years. This is a significant rise compared to 1,577,597 units sold in 2023. In comparison, motorcycle sales in 2022 and 2021 were 1,564,827 units and 1,435,677 units, respectively. Prior to the pandemic in 2020, MDPPA’s total sales were around 1.2 million units. The 2019 sales figure remains a peak year, with 1.7 million units sold.
“Despite ongoing challenges in the industry, MDPPA is pleased to share that the 7% growth achieved in 2024 is the highest among our ASEAN neighbors,” Alex Cumpas, President of MDPPA, noted. “Indonesia and Malaysia experienced a growth of 2%, while others within the region recorded minimal growth numbers. We are hopeful that the golden years of 2019, when we recorded sales of 1.7 million units, could be surpassed this year in 2025.”
The data, which compares Q2 2025 figures against the same period last year, reveals key shifts and sustained dominance across various motorcycle categories, namely, automatic, moped, street, business, big bikes, and niche motorcycle types.
The Q2 2025 results reinforce the Philippine motorcycle industry’s resilience and strong market demand. The overall growth of nearly 5% indicates a healthy and expanding market. The Automatic/Scooter category still leads the way in terms of model sales.
Furthermore, factors such as the continued need for personal mobility, ongoing economic recovery, and accessibility of financing options are expected to sustain this positive momentum throughout the year.
Industry stakeholders, including the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) and its member brands Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS, have expressed optimism for continued growth in 2025, projecting a 5% increase for the entire year.
“We remain optimistic about the continued growth of motorcycle sales in the Philippines for this year, driven by strong consumer demand, expanding delivery and mobility services, and the consistently growing appeal of motorcycles as a cost-effective personal transport option across both urban and rural areas,” said Toni Boi Acuesta, MDPPA’s Marketing Committee Chairperson.
